What We Cannot Change

What We Cannot Change (courtesy from Sharon Robert )

Philippians 1:6 (For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus)

Yellow, gold, and red leaves whipped across my windshield as I made my way down the highway to my painting class. Autumn is giving way to winter,I thought as I drove. I noticed two huge sycamore trees standing side by side like two wooden soldiers in the blustering wind. Oddly, one tree was brilliant yellow, the other was summer green. I wondered why. Why did two kindred trees, standing in the same place, with the same soil, having the same water source and the same measure of sunlight, appear so totally different in color? Surely they both experienced identical temperatures, be it daylight or night. Such mystery is the science of life–of change–of Autumn.

Christians are like that. We each have Jesus. We access the Heavenly Father through prayer. We have Bibles, and Sunday School, and even the same preacher who preaches the same sermon to each of us–week after week, month after month, year after year. Yet, we do not grow at the same pace, nor change to suit the desires of man.

Why?

We are each on an individual journey. We each face trials, discern solutions, and resolve things in ways as only we can. What one person does with information, guidance, and trials does not ensure another will do. Sometimes this frustrates us, we want to grow and change faster.

“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

Each person has needs in life, and with each need comes a choice. Each choice brings about a specific result. Not all results are equal. The way you process information, may not be the way another processes it. We each move at our own pace. What God wants to change in me, may not be what you desire to see changed. What could take me year to change, may take another two days–or a month.

Change comes from within, and Jesus is working on each of us, with our particular need in mind–with His particular purpose for our lives. The person I meet on the street is not the same as the one you meet. Thus the change needed in me to meet the purpose God has planned for another person I meet, may not be the change needed in you for the person in your life. We need not be frustrated with Christ’s timetable.

Sometimes we get impatient with others. We think they need to change. We think we need to change them–to fix them. We try to make them fit our little plan, our time constraints. How very silly we are. We can no more change a person than we can change the leaves on a sycamore tree. It’s best we stop trying to change others and yield ourselves to Christ, allowing Him to perfect in us as He sees fit.

PRAYER: Lord, give us patience to accept others as You do. Help us see others through Your eyes of patience, kindness and mercy. Let us surrender to You today and rest in Your hands as You work out in us the perfection of Your choosing.

KRI Spritzer Scenic Run 2010

Last Sunday was this annual KRI run. Organised in Bukit Kinding Resort and the run will be around the golf course. Nice view they mentioned.

A 12km run...
Actually they can also call it a 12km hill run or climb. Yes, it was extremely hilly! The most hilly run I've ever experienced.
Most of it, I was panting like a half dead fish and halfway through a few climbs I walked! And seriously thought about stopping! Although many times people said nice view nice view, I was not enjoying it then...hahaha!

1km...3.45
2km...4.22
3km...5.00++
The hills are coming...the hills...arggghh!!!
Forget about the time splits...

Up down, up down...and a few hills were incredibly steep. Marshal stationed there told runners to slow our descend unless we don't mind rolling down like a sack of potatoes...in my case will be tomatoes...hehehe!

Ok, cut the story short, I paced with someone whom I forgot to ask his name in the final 2km. He asked me to follow him, so I did. Last km, he stopped to walk and I pulled him along as I pass him. But that was the only few seconds I was in front of him as he sprinted to the finish line in the last 200m. I was smoked! :(

Finished the 12km panting and out of breath. Happy to finish a strenuous hill run.

At the finish line, I waited for Michelle. So far no girls have finished and I didn't pass any. So she's still in good contention for a podium finish...again. :P

Too bad I didn't ready my HP to snap her finish...Michelle is the champion!! Woooohooo!!! Congrats !!!
The last km was a tough fight as she "pia" like hell to keep the 2nd girl behind her at a safe distance.Yip also did well, 4th. He took off ahead of me from 2km onwards, clearly showed his strength in hill climbs apart from his crazy endurance distances. He clocked 52min. Wow!!!Kudos to them! Well done!

As for me, I only managed 59min, position 20th...I think... :(

Weekly Prayer Focus

Jesus Christ is born! This joyous message was given by angels 2,000 years ago in the little town of Bethlehem in Israel.

Who is Jesus Christ? He is the Son of God; the Savior of the world; the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. But 2,000 years ago, He was born as a little baby. God was His Father; the Virgin Mary was His mother. It had been foretold hundreds of years before that the Messiah, the Savior, was to be born in the town of Bethlehem. "And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the leaders of Judah; for out of you shall come forth a ruler, who will shepherd My people Israel."

What the prophets foretold came true. For Jesus Christ came to earth to be our Savior. He could have come as a rich and powerful ruler, leading the armies of heaven. But He came as a little baby, humble and small. He was born to a poor family. He was not born in a palace, but was born in a stable. But from that stable was to come the most wonderful, and powerful, and loving, and wise person the world has ever known -- the Son of God, Jesus Christ. Let us come and worship Him together!

So, this week, let us pray and ask God to

  • Give us a heart of love for others this Christmas time

  • Help our volunteers and staff at Global Media Outreach to be always filled with His Holy Spirit and love and covered with His protection

  • Save someone that we love this Christmas time

May God bless you as we serve Christ together,

Your friends at Global Media Outreach

Time flies, let's keep on running!

Is time moving much faster now compared to when I was a kid?

Definitely!

This year went by like a rocket. 30 days left and it's the year 2011. Heck, I still can remember school days back in...or should I say way way back in 1988 -1992.

1993 was college year...

1994 - 1997 Uni days...

1998 - first year at work!

12 years later, 2010, still working...not yet a millionaire. When will that day be??? By the time I become a millionaire, people are billionaires!! Darn!!!!

I better not think about that. Forget about it. Hahaha!

Just enjoy life as how God has planned for us. Live life and enjoy the fullest!

See the world, run every corners of the world...if possible.

Angkor Wat Half Marathon, here I come! :P
