Gunung Datuk - Gunung Angsi

This mountain circuit challenge was something different from the usual road running which we are accustomed to in Klang valley, Singapore, Ipoh, Penang or overseas. It's something like a mini climbathon up Mount Kinabalu.

I missed the first in Gunung Tampin and can't remember why but Gunung Datuk was my first visit. The race up the 800m+ mountain was over a month ago where I went together with Tony & Michelle, met YeeChoi and very soon came along Dave, Lydia, Kenny & Debbie.

It was a vertical race where the girls did very well. Podium and top10.
And the guys...well, what can I say but ...habuk pun tada!

.

The climb at Gunung Angsi was longer than Datuk. Flat hashing before reaching the climb.

That's how the peak looked like...like somebody's orchard!

Again the girls won. Michelle got 5th. I was again out of top10 for any prizes...sob...sob...

Zeal

Nice sharing from a friend...

I must work the works of Him who sent Me
John 9:4

The Bible word for passion is zeal. Without it, life can become pretty drab. Everything is a 'have to' and nothing is a 'want to' or a 'must'. Zeal keeps you going when others quit. It pushes you through the toughest times and gives you energy you didn't know you possessed. Nothing can take its place. Opportunity can't, for example. Opportunity may open the door, but without zeal you won't make the most of your opportunities and you won't get to your destiny. Howard Hendricks said, 'You don't put live eggs under dead chickens.' That's what opportunities are to people without zeal. Knowledge can't replace zeal. Some of America's worst presidents are reputed to have been the smartest. And some of the greatest, such as Abraham Lincoln, had very little formal education. A résumé may get you through the door, but that's as far as it will get you. Talent won't replace zeal either. There are many people in the world with great natural talent who never achieve personal or professional success. Talent is like money; it only grows when you put it to work. Finally, others can't. You will never be successful without the help of others, but merely being surrounded with the right people doesn't guarantee success. A team with no heart won't succeed. Zeal is the difference-maker. And one of the secrets of having zeal, is knowing that God has truly called and gifted you to do a certain thing. Jesus said, 'I must work the works of Him who sent Me.' This kind of zeal is not taught but 'caught'' so if you're lacking in it today, spend more time with Jesus.

Run In Memory of Ngae Koh Hieng

15 May 2010, Ngae Koh Hieng passed away. He's a friend, mentor, father figure to us. In the sports arena, he has countless times inspired and encouraged everyone. His trademark is running barefooted with sarong.
He will be dearly missed...

There's a run this Sunday, in memory of Ngae. All are invited.

Below are the details from Facebook, courtesy of Wan Yew Leong. To register, please go to
http://www.facebook.com/?sk=events#!/event.php?eid=121790374510721

Date: Sunday, May 23, 2010
Time: 6:30am - 8:30am
Location: Bukit Aman Car-park, Jln Tangling, Kuala Lumpur

This coming Sunday when Pacesetters members have their morning run it would be a run in memory of our fellow member and friend, Ngae Koh Hieng who passed away suddenly on 15 May 2010. All runners and triathletes who know him are invited to this run in memory of him. We try to print a set of souvenir bibs in memory of Ngae but wearing it to run is optional. The distance to run is up to you, the usual 10km Double Hill or any distance you fancy. It is entirely for fellowship.

In an after thought, we have decided that we have a pot luck breakfast party for participants of the Run in Memory of Ngae. To start the ball rolling, Tammy Lim will bring a pot of Tong Sui, Chan WK his table and 3 in one coffee and Milo. I will prepare my signature teh tarik. The rest of you who are able to bring something, here are the suggestions; additional table or two, isotonic drinks, mineral water, fruits like bananas and water melons, cakes, bread and buns, sandwich, meehoon, noodles, eggs, biscuits, cups, paper towel, plates, bowls, forks and spoons. I will just leave it to your imagination. I don't know exactly how many will turn up but as at 10am 19 May 2010, 99 have signed up on my Facebook event for the run. I have ordered 150 souvenir bibs from Francis Cheng.

6.00am - issuance of souvenir bibs

6.29am - one minute silence before run

6.30am - Flag off run

8.15am - Pot-luck Breakfast at Bukit Aman Car-park

10.00am - End of Event

Ask and Receive

In today’s Gospel, Jesus promised that “anything we ask from the Father, He will grant in His Name .” If our hearts and life are lived truly and solely for God and out of love for Him, then the only prayer that we will ask is to love Him more fully and serve Him more selflessly – in accordance to His Father’s Will.

Bidor Bidor Bidor

Bidor Half Marathon, a perfect run in a small town away from the hustle bustle in Klang valley. Green jungle instead of the concrete jungle!

25th April, hundreds of runners 'terrorised' 21km of Bidor roads.

The medal from Bidor Half Marathon is the heaviest I ever got comparing all the races in Malaysia. Very nice and detailed design as well. Did you see Paula Radclife on the medal??
Apart from just being a yearly half marathon, Bidor town comes alive with runners ploughing through the coffee shops, restaurants and hotels way up to Tapah and Kampar.

For half marathons and as far as I remember, my last one was...RMAF 21km two years ago. Oh man, was it so long ago???
This year will be a year of half marathons. Time to do just half half and full marathons will be taking a break. :)

As expected, there won't be any PB. I'm happy to finish it under 1.45
Guess what? I was 1min slower than my PB. Not bad at all considering lack of speedwork.

The girls is a different story.
Saya San 4th, Shih Ming 3rd and Michelle 2nd. Fast girls!!!
